Glass Beach

Nature finds a way to create beauty in the midst of neglect and ignorance. Back in the early 20th century, the residents of Fort Bragg threw their household trash off the cliffs right into the ocean. As the trash piled up along the the coast line, attempts were made after nearly 60 years to clean up the trash including burning the mounds of garage. Over the years, the waves continued to crash and break up the small pieces and what was left behind was a beach covered in round and smooth glass. Now, the area is conservency land owned by the State of California and a popular tourist attraction.
